ok after telling everyone my truck was 3 tons lol i noticed the max oops the "maximum ground verihickle weight" that is listed on truck's door tag is 6000+++ depending on model
subtracting the weight of the truck apx 5000 pounds would leave 1000 lbs or one half ton
if they claim 2000 max gvw and your truck weight 1000 you have a half ton truck
you not me lol
my gvw is 6100 on my 79 bronco and i was also wondering if my truck weighs more because it has a different engine in it. it is still a 351m but its from a 77 f-250. could anyone tell me how much my truck weighs?
Most larger truck stops & interstate gas stations that sell diesel have truck scales that you can use. They charge ~$10 if you want a certified weight ticket, but they'll usually tell you your weight free. Just talk to them before you drive over it. It helps if you have a CB.
Lots of scrap metal yards have drive-on scales, too.
>>1 big79>> that 6100 is that from the door tag if so look closer
do you see the little max. ?? that is what your frame (not so much) and your suspention is rated for thats why in 78 > 79 there was a 6100, 6400, and 6700 lb different susp that took more weight
soooo
if you take the weight of your truck factory plus the additional weight of a larger motor this means your truck can "hold less weight up" or more weight from the max gvw listed on your door tag is taken up by a bigger engine even tho you may be able to pull more
ok on newer trucks ac/and insulation aside factor in the newer aluminum trannies and transfercases?? any one know what the weight difference is between a aluminum mazda ford tranny and BW trans case and the cast iron np235/205??
how about the 7.5/8.8 inch rear compared to the 9 inch?
steel dash any one??
have you looked at 1/2 ton f-150/bronco pre 80 leaf springs compared to newer than 80? ther seems to be one missing... huh what happened there?
didn't the new(er) broncos use those cute plastic bumpers? really not sure
now saying a 90 bronco is heavyier than a 78/79 is halarious(i may be wrong)

from what i have seen alot of them are pre-preg fiberglass(this is glass that has resin all ready impregnated into it that is kept cold. as long as it is at a properly cold temp it is still formable. as the temp gets upto room temp the resin activates and it hardens.(just a note a longer cure makes for a better finished product) alas the companies in a search for a faster production time uses heated metal dies ,speeding the cure) stamped out under heat in a matched die former
gee can you guess what i do lol
i am far from against Fiber Reinforced Plastic(FRP for short) if done with quality formost in mind rather than speed in mind you can produce a car in total with it. although the natl. highway adm won't go for it it has been tryed
but anyway thats way i said "? really not sure" at the end of the statement
and yes fiberglass/kevlar(amarid fiber), and carbon are plastic

At any rate, not on Broncos. They all have chrome, or grey painted steel, bumpers. Maybe one of those special editions, like the Nite, had covers on the bumpers but I'm not sure.
hence maybe
i am just saying that i would think, probally not the 80>86 as much, but the newer broncos would be lighter because...
the "heavy parts"(engine tranny axles) went from cast iron(heavy) to aluminum(or just lighter as the lightened 302/351W > 5.0/5.8)
went from steel interior to platic
lighter suspention(pre-80 f150 had 5 leafs 83 4 leafs (my buddy's "new" one 3 leafs). i know the spring rates are different but 5 must weight more than 3 or 4.
and either the body steel is thinner or just improperly treated as the new ones(by what i have seen) rot out quicker. really how many people had a garage 20 years ago no one in my family lol but now you have to have one. dig out the truck from under 2 feet of snow and go to work lol

Your just going to have to wait for somebody to put a somewhat stock Pre-80 on the scale to know for sure. I understand your assertions that aluminum is lighter than steel. I would have thought the same thing. But the fact is the "new" ones are pigs too. A lot of us have 5 leaves, every conceivable option, towing packages, safety options etc. I just ran a load of scrap with my mostly stock 94 XLT 351W. About 5700# empty, right in line with the other weights posted here. It's a good number. All that remains is an accurate weight for an old one.
i put an end to my debate with my father today. i went to a transfer station and had my 79 bronco custom weighed. the title for the truck says 4083lbs. the truck scale said that my bronco weighs 5160lbs. once again my father was just arguing with me for the sake of arguing. my 79 weighs 550lbs more than his 92 bronco.
