Welcome to the forum neighbor. I had a 76 like that with a 390 4bbl. Same 8' long bed. That thing would fly, got 8mpg all day long, didn't matter if loaded, unloaded, towing or not lol but damn it was fast. Had to get rid of it though. One day on the way home from work on a light rain day the tailgate decided it wanted to see what the grille did going up hill on a 2 lane country road. Very light in the rear and she hydroplaned on me.
By the time I crested the hill, facing the right direction and gained traction, I was half on/off the hwy in the opposing lane of traffic. Luckily no one was coming the other way at the time because it wouldn't have been nice. Scarred the hell outta me.
Just something to keep in mind on that truck with an even more powerful engine, that rear end can get away from you easy. Sand bags are your friend. I do miss that truck.
