I've read in a couple places about Amazon reviews. There seem to be companies who will compensate you to get rid of a bad review. I suspect that these companies are less than honest (duh) .
If you could figure out who does this and how much they pay maybe Bezoz wouldn't be the only Amazon billionaire
This is true. I use Amazon myself, and tend to leave reviews, good and bad, hoping it may help another consumer. I'm totally honest and have left some less than stellar reviews only to have the vendor (not amazon) contact me & offer a replacement or a full refund if I retract my review. It really happens, and I've seen it more than just a few times.
I rarely if ever review Amazon purchases...not sure what I can say about the shaving cream that I just bought that will encourage or deter someone from buying it. I have run into "strange"...obviously bogus reviews on Amazon and complained about them...never received a response. One item stands out in my memory...sonic pest repellants manufactured by either a Japanese company. All the reviews were in a "Japanese Type" English...English was obviously not their primary language. They reminded me of the owners manual from a Subaru that I purchased in the early 80s with the combination of languages.
I did buy a TV on the interweb...not from Amazon...about 15 years ago. I gave the company a less than stellar review...for what reason I can't remember. I soon received a phone call offering $25 to "correct" the review. I declined. I still have the TV by the way.
Like y'all when I leave an honest but unflattering review I'm already pissed and not likely to change it. If I have an issue with something I'll make a decided effort to work with the seller and how they respond sets the tone for any review I'll leave. I pay close attention to negative reviews as those tend to be the more honest ones anyway.
An interesting fact about customers or anyone receiving a service/product is satisfied customers on average contact four others about being content. When/if something goes wrong and not corrected on average the customer will contact twenty people!
Thinking about that I know I'm far more prone to talk about a crappy situation than one with a good outcome.
