I just joined and wanted to say hello. I recently picked up a 2003 Mineral Grey Ford Explorer with the 4.6 engine and tow package. I bought it to tow my 1990 Ford Mustang. I noticed that many performance items are listed for other 4.6 equipped vehicles such as the Expedition, F-150, etc., but they seem to neglect the new Explorers. I decided to join and see what I can be done to the Explorer. As a performance junkie and car nut, I can never leave well enough alone
Hey "RdRunnr" welcome to FTE from Canyon Lake, Texas! Sounds like a pretty powerful Explorer, should handle the pulling duties. Not as fast as the '90 'stang, though! Have fun.
The reason that the explorer is often neglected is because its kind off on it own, the expedition and F150 (97-03 anyway) share the same platform. Also, for a long time the Exploder shared the same platform as the ranger, I don't know about it now, but without a little interchangeability, the aftermarket doesn't believe that it will sell as much. Granted there are thousands of upgrades for the 4.6, which has nearly become the chevy 350 in terms of how many vehicles they put it in.
