Broke down 88
took truck pulling small boat on holidays 12 days ago, about a 4 hr run.
truck ran perfectly.
Used throughout holidays w no problem.
I did notice on cold start first thing in am that truck fires up, catch’s idles properly for a second or 2 then drops idle, almost stalls catch’s then back up to normal warm up idle.
To me feels like new fuel pump on its way out.
Back when I put the truck together, new pump tanks, new rail pump, filter.
Now yesterday I’m running down highway about 100 km hr, about 2 hours from home engine quits in middle of highway and I’m stranded on side of road.
I try turning over and will not fire, switch tanks, same thing.
I had a box of random parts w spare fuel p7mp relay, no go.
Switched regulator, reset fuel shut off at brake pedal.
Same results, turns over great no fire.
Im suspecting fuel pump as the cold start issue?
I beat on the side of fuel pump but of course no go.
I was on a really bad spot on highway on a Saturday with lots of traffic. No good.
Any how , got a tow truck for a hefty bill and truck is 2 hours away at a friends rural property awaiting a repair.
When I left friends place last eve I tried one more time to start truck and it did start, ran strong for 3 seconds and died immediately. I could smell raw gas.
it was getting dark and I was too tired to look around anymore.
I need to go back in next few days to rescue truck. I’ll go w new fuel pump.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to arrive properly prepared to sort this out ?
