what exactly does the pcm do ? and what exactly does it all control ? does it also do anything with the transmission ? what all does it do ?.............
cool. the factory replacement pcm box is $340. i checked at an auto parts store and can get a rebuilt for $140. both have a warranty for a year. is the remanufactured okay ?
to make a long story short. i have had a miss for some time. first it scoped out as a #4 miss. we changed plugs, ohm'd the coils and everything was hunky dory. it still missed during acceleration (especially up-hill at highway speed). then during a particuliary bad missing fit.... i drove it to the mechanic while it was missing ( felt like i was driving with a flat...it was that bad) and it scanned out as a primary coil failure in #'s 1,2,3,4. without doing anything else, we turned the truck off, and immediately re-started it and it purred like a kitten. my 5.4 triton is still with a miss, but no check engine light.......the miss is serious enough that my 7 and 10 year old daughters notice it when we go somewhere. is this the pcm going bad. ( the miss seems to get more and more progerssively worse as time goes by) my mechanic is perplexed, as am I. change the pcm ?
