Looked at another rig tonight, 89 7.3L. In okish shape, but needs a lot of work. No batteries, so risks associated with that. CC dualy with less rust then normal, manual, interior looked good but smelled of the traditional mouse ****. Autolite glow plugs - I pulled one and it came right out. The GP connectors on the harness were in bad shape. Miles seem low. All 6 tires are unroadworthy.
When I checked the radiator, I saw no coolant. The overflow was also empty. Any horror stories? Had what looked like replacement upper and lower hoses. The dipstick showed black oil halfway down the hash, which at least indicates someone didn't change the oil to hide something. The tach sensor cable was cut. Other miscellaneous issues, but its a tow home deal. Exterior dirty as ****. Rust through on bed behind the fiberglass dually wells. Frame and leaf spring perches looked ok.
Please talk me into or out of this. Guy asks 2200, that's way more than its worth to me in the risky condition. This is Michigan. Be my jiminy cricket here..
offer him a grand. if he takes it, you will be ok even if the engine is bad and you have to part it out.
if he insists on 2200, tell him only if he gets it running.
