^^^^ There's a reason that volleyball is considered a spectator sport!
Way back when I met and dated an OSU Varsity Volley Ball player---she was all of 6 feet tall to my 5'6"! We met and played pick-up basketball games on a local Jr High outdoor court, all day Saturday weather permitting. I never liked having my shots blocked but she could and would stuff my shots back without even flinching. It was cute in a way, I mean after all she's just a girl right?
She loved I could deal with it, allowed her to show her stuff, the on-lookers grew willing to go up against her as she became better known, she loved the competition.
At that time she couldn't legally buy beer so that was one of the benefits she had dating me!

Flashback 40 years ago. I'm in my 20s and coaching women's athletics. Some are from the area high schools, some from the university, etc. In those days I was the tallest guy on campus at 6'7" and to this day have still not met a woman taller than me. It is kinda fun calling a 6'2" woman "shorty". Most of them were picked on unmercifully as teenagers and still bear some resentment. For me to call them "shorty" is a quick flashback, then they see the grin on my face looking down at them and laugh with me. It's been a great ice breaker.
Every Sunday afternoon one of the high school principals would open up the school gym for us. It was mostly co-ed adult basketball, but we did get some of the women from the university teams to join in. It usually gave me a chance to coach from the court. Some of the women were used to being the best player on their team but they'd never played against my height. With a standing reach of 8'7" I can reach higher than most of their competition could jump. At first they'd whine "it's not fair" when they'd try to show off but couldn't get a shot off. Teaching moment number 1 -- "no, it's not. Figure out how to get around me or shoot over me and there's not a female player in the country that can stop you."
I never did date any of them. Had several opportunities, but I'd just been through a tough divorce and my head was all screwed up. No point pissin' one of them off and having all her friends take her side!

Fantastic teaching moment, adapt, improvise, persevere I say! I think to this day the men's teams will scrimmage with the women's teams in both basketball and volley ball to give them another level of competition. I've heard the women LOVE this, look forward to it and can not only smack talk with the best but put on one helluva impressive battle with the men!

No you don't need to have a gang of competitive gals coming at you for all the wrong reasons.
My VB player was a bit timid, not too quick to start conversations with the other guys at the play ground most of them also hesitant to engage with her too for some reason. Most of us just assumed she was the girlfriend of someone else so just kinda kept their distance. One afternoon as we were wrapping up I eventually found myself alone on the court, she was still sitting in the bleachers just watching. She'd moved to sit closer to the court so I rolled the ball her way, asked for a little help and dayum---she grabbed the ball doing a jump shop from almost 30' out and banked off the backboard without hesitation---and sat back down.
We played a bit, talked a bit before she trotted off home---she lived somewhat close to the school. She was back the next week, we did much the same thing again and I was intrigued. At one point I was tasked with choosing a team and I invited her to join in. Naturally the jeers and laughs came up until she was damn near running over guys going to the boards. They were shocked, finally adjusted and began to push back but cleanly---no cheap shots. She was thrilled to join in, said that even for out-of-shape white guys we weren't bad ballers.
We hung out that summer until the winter break around Thanksgiving. She went home and I never heard from her again---kinda sad she was such a sweetie.
Great memories and yeah she could wear those close fitting uniform shorts very, very well!
Played full court pick up games with the Neighborhood girls back then the outdoor basketball court was very busy as teens !
Some o those girls never missed shots played h.s. ball 6 on 6 was girls games 3 offensive - 3 defensive at ends of the court.
Very competitive 5 on 5 guys games too.
Running was the game, only way to beat them was speed and great passing. Those girls loved playing rough defense.
Most Offense girls went on to play College ball. Played with and against several all-staters that won / played in state championships.
^^ This is true, and for no good reason. Had to use my truck yesterday for a road trip, I filled it up at 1/4 tank & it was $121, diesel. Robbery for sure, it'll be parked in garage now until I have to use it again.
I purchased a 2008 Corolla Sport when gas was + $4 a gallon. it saved its payment every month and was the time for a new vehicle. The 4x4 remained sitting for the warm months and the near 40 mpg of the Corolla was much appreciated. I drove it 78,000 miles between spring of 2008 and fall of 2011 when I traded it for another truck with gas prices below $2 again. Am watching this closely and will most likely purchase a 50 mpg Hybrid this following Spring. Don't see a quick return to $2 a gallon gas pump again for years now most likely never & an EV just can't make my range needs most every spring - summer - fall times. Thinking let them EV's prove they are a good & reliable power source first ! If the EV's begin to actually prove out my in County mileage during colder times usually make around 120 mile daily runs possible. Will see how they work out as the months go buy. My main thought is will the Battery actually last 48 months with out failure and major upkeep costs to repair them. All my experiences show me the Lithium's work well or won't accept a charge some times when the battery isn't even been in actual use much, has mostly been just a shelf setter.
That battery fire thing just makes me cringe with negative cognitive thoughts !
