Has anyone actually gotten their special ordered Super Duty yet? What’s the consensus on prices? I am looking at my dealer stock of ‘21 SD’s and seeing a $5k markup over MSRP. Are they going to hit our special orders with that too?
That's up to the dealership, did you not lock a price in at time of order?
I did not. This is my first time ever ordering a new vehicle. I casually asked about the pricing and she said it’s better to wait until it comes in so I could take advantage of any incentives that may show up since there are none now. She also said the deposit is refundable if it does not work out. Should I call them and start to negotiate now? I am trading in and paying rest in cash. I also asked about the price on the order which was different and she said it was for the 2021 models because the order system had not updated yet.

My advice if you don’t need it this fall?
Wait.
Wait until the market corrects. Then you should be able to order at invoice and split the holdback. Probably an 8K difference.
With PCO, and under invoice pricing, I paid a total $5,500 under invoice for my Limited. Those prices will return next spring-summer.

So they used your name to make the order knowing they could fluff dealer stock. Always lock the price and current rebates you can change later if they increase. What your need to do is ask the the dealer for the copy of of DORA. This will give all the pricing breakdowns and show the pricing and order priority code.

Totally agree about market correction, and further that, with earlier time period.
If Ford wants to keep the best selling truck year award, they will discount and drop lots of incentives here shortly in Q4 for all F-Series

You are the perfect customer for the dealer. You didn’t lock in a price and you have a trade in to boot they can low ball you on. Hope it works out for you in the long run.

Your dealer sounds like one to be wary of. Charging 5K over MSRP is certainly their prerogative, but a dealer that will do that will also charge a premium for the truck you have on order. They likely also are a dealer that charges high doc fees and add pricey dealer extras such as fabric and paint protection.
We are in a strange market with unstable supply and unstable pricing but the dealer should be able to give you a price for your ordered truck. Incentives are on top of the dealer's price so getting a price today for your ordered truck does not impact what incentives you can get upon delivery. The sales person is blowing smoke. Pricing your trade-in is another matter given the used truck market.
A straight forward dealer will give you a price for your ordered truck as well as a price for your trade-in (subject to change if your truck's value changes). Your dealer wants to keep all the pricing leverage on their side of the table.

Boy-oh-boy!
They are going to rip you a new one when that truck comes in!
They are more than willing to give you your deposit back because they can sell the truck to someone else in a heartbeat.
NEVER order something like this and leave it open ended like you did.
In this current market, I wouldn't trust any dealer until the deal is done. So you agreed on a price and signed something.....if they don't honor that, what's your recourse? Sue for something and spend more in legal fees than you'd be out?
I will expand on what the previous members have said but try to pull it all together.
When you go to a dealership to order, you negotiate the price at the time. In the past, most people negotiate from the Invoice Price plus or minus an amount. AT this time, there is a growing trend for dealers to want full retail or MSRP. Then you get to lock in the general current Incentives from FORD and the personalized offers that are addressed to you. When the truck is delivered and you are going to pay, you usually have the choice of the incentives at the time of order, or the current incentives. But the personal offers should be valid at either time.
After the order, your dealer should be having you fill out a form showing who the retail order is for, and a $1000 deposit. This is to confirm to FORD that this a retail order. The reason this is important, is that FORD is only building retail orders due to the production issues. Your dealer should give you a copy of the order. It is important to get this as it lists all of your options etc and you want the truck to be exactly as you want it.
It appears that your dealer is allowing you to order a retail truck, but not committing selling it to you. At worst, he gets a dealer stock truck and at best, he will let you purchase it after negotiating when it is on his lot. After your long wait for your dream truck, is he going to be nice to you on price?
Always negotiate the price at the time of ordering. And if the price is not good, go to another dealership. Do not hope the dealer will give you a good deal, when your truck arrives after many months waiting.
When we ordered our last 2 trucks, we got the better of the incentives at order or delivery. If you ordered, I'd go ask for the firm price in a contract or cancel the order.
