I have a 2002 f450 v10 new ford reman engine, new belts, water pump, t stat, radiator has been cleaned and tested. It is the thicker radiator core 2.5 inch. 6.0 large transmission cooler, new a/c condenser new coolant hoses, new coolant, new heavy duty service Hayden fan clutch. Truck runs fine empty. When I hook my dump trailer up loaded to a combined weight of 21000 and pull a hill 90 to 100 degree outside air temp. Truck has to shift into second stays at 3500 to 4000 rpm no problem but water temp will get as high as 230 not a long pull so I hit the top then it comes right back down to 200. Worried it may keep going up on longer pull don’t want to cook the engine 195 t stat I tested it and it seems ok. I am reading the temp off my scanner the gauge stays in the middle to 3/4 range so I guess that’s normal no lights on. You can hear the fan wind up at about 215 on the scanner. No coolant loss. any one know if this is normal or too hot?
A 180° thermostat did wonders for mine, I have a fully built V10 that was just put in 6 months ago it was running a little hot after the rebuild and I found out they put in a 195 more or less when I was sitting still for long periods or on a long dragged out uphill.
After throwing in the 180 the temperatures remain golden as long as I'm moving and almost always when I'm still as well except for when it's $120 freaking degrees in Arizona then it still builds some temperature if it's parked for more than 20 minutes but it's nothing that's dangerous
