Who would buy a truck like this? (86 F250 2wd) Apparently me. I wanted the body to put on an Idi or 300 six. Didn’t want to take over someone else’s project, didn’t want the big lift, etc
The frame is so much nicer than other trucks up here as it came from New Mexico. I’m having second thoughts. Maybe I finish this swap and put whatever power plant I want in it.
Front axle is in, sks kit w 6” leaf springs.
no shocks, no steering, t case, break lines etc
I don’t know if this was done right or not..
have access to a f150 4x4 300 six, 5 speed…maybe even free..
so what do you guys think of the work on this swap? (I’ll get more pics as needed)
How much work would it be to finish this up?
I don’t know how I feel about the rear spring mount.. By upper Michigan standards that’s like a dinner plate clean
Like you mentioned, that frontend is store bought. Looks like a sky manufacturing kit, I don't know about sks. I would not mess with any of the engineering on it, like changing the rear spring mounts. That is a shackle reversal kit, the shackle on the factory trucks was in the front. But of course you could not get that straight front axle in a f250 from the factory, it would have been the ttb axle.
The more I think about it the way that kit fits in the frame it almost have to be pretty square. Unless the frame was bent haha. The back brackets for the leaf could be off. I’m gonna check it out for square the best I can and roll with it.
I’m going to ditch the 6” lift springs though. it’s gonna have 2” just off the shackle kit alone I believe.
I’ll have to learn some stuff along the way. Never messed around with trans/case/ driveshaft but starting to seem like the trans/tcase will be pretty basic. Just the driveshaft project may have to be farmed out.
motor, trans, tcase out of F150
maybe some steering linkage and driveshaft from a JY F350 and I’ll be in action.. or close to it
The way those rear shackles are bolted & hung would make me real nervous. All the stress on the hanger is to the side of where it's bolted on with nothing to support it from the top. At the very least, I'd fab some kind of gusset for them.
Someone did some fudging on those rear spring hangers I agree. Here are the instructions for this kit in this link. You can see the rear hangers in the kit or more substantial. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/07...f?v=1611278199
If you figure it out some more, and do find out those are not the correct rear spring hangers, I think I would call sky and see if they would sell you just the rear hangers if you do not have the skills to make your own.
