If no spark with it hot wired then I see it being 1 of 2 things.
Did you change out the ICM box either o
A silver box on the inner fender or the YFI on the side of the distributor?
If yes try the same test with the old ICM or TFI to see what happens.
If still no spark then I would say the pickup coil in the distributor is bad.

I changed out the ICM on the fender. I also tested an older one lying around. I don’t think that’s the issue as I hooked up 3 different ones.

There's a third possibility none of us have considered so far. Wherever he lives, the normal laws of physics do not apply. It's either that or I was wrong less correct than usual, so that must be it.
Something else to check. This does not happen very often but take the dist cap off, and get someone to crank it over and make sure the rotor is turning. Once in awhile something bad will happen down inside the engine and the dist quits turning.

Long thread, might be easiest to start at the end and work forward. The root cause was the oil pump locked up (picked up debris?) and then sheared the oil pump driveshaft and distributor gear roll pin.
Anyone have a link to proper distributor pickup coil for my truck? Can’t find on napa or other parts stores. I’m still going to run the test but I need to get this thing running and I’m having a hard time finding the time to work on the truck. Obviously I’ll return the pickup coil if I find that it’s not the fix.
Looks like the right one. It has the duraspark II connector on it. I will warn you , this is not much fun to replace. You need to take two large screwdrivers and get on each side of the star wheel and carefully pry up on it. The fun part is there is a key on the shaft. Well, it acts like a key, but it's really a roll pin. But it lays in there like a key. Watch out for it and don't lose it. Once you get that out of the way it's not too bad.

Sorry for the long delay. I have the new distributor pickup coil on the way from rock auto and already got the old one safely out. Hopefully I’ll be running again this week!
Good news and bad news. The good is that I replaced the pickup coil and the truck started up. The bad news is sounds awful. For some reason the cap isn’t sitting exactly the way it did before and when I turn it a 1/4” clockwise the engine sounds fine. But the bottom clips don't line up to where I need them to now. The main issue is the wire inside to the new pickup coil. It’s sitting right where I need that clip to be… the entire cap won’t stay where I need it bc of that wire and the clip.
Got a picture of it with the cap off so we can see what is going on?
From that picture it looks good to go.
Also IIRC the star can fit on 2 different ways as it has 2 slots the pin goes through.
Are you sure you used the right slot? That would be the only reason I could think why you would need to turn the dist.
