cargo area storage

Hello,
Haven't been on the site for a few years now. Way back then i was looking to see if anyone had come up with something that can be bought to fill in the rear tire storage area with somthing to store equipment with.
Also any suggestions on some storage draws that are not overly deep for the cargo area

Thanks!!

Got any links or key words to search for to find those threads. The search feature on this forum isn't great, when I search for cargo area storage, noting really useful comes up on the first several hundred search results. There are two storage / drawer threads in the tech folder, but those are the only ones I've been able to find. Thanks

I know what you mean, what i did find was homemade drawers that one guy did and they looked great! I actually found more links in this forum on google than i could find in this forum. There is a place in Florida that makes a speaker box that fits in the spare tire area that i am going to call this week to see if they could do one wihtout speaker holes and be open the last 1/4 of the height

Too bad there is some block on posting links on this forum. Google search “excursion barn door storage” and you will get more results for this forum than using this forum search. Strange.

I just got a text back from SQR as posted above and they sent me a sketch, they will put a hinged door on the spare tire speaker box and shelves' inside and delete the speaker holes, waiting for a quote back. This will make it storage box and clear some additional space for me!

I looked for a couple years for something to go in my cargo area. Not really in the spare tire area more a drawer type idea. What I settled on after multiple failures was an under bed safe that I ordered from home depot. This works very well for my purpose, which is to keep a large selection of tools for working on the ex or on one of the kids trucks, etc. Also can keep plenty of spare parts in there. And one of the most crucial features is it's only 6 inches tall, so I still have the whole cargo bay to stack all my construction tools, camping supplies, beach gear, whatever. And it's a safe, so it's all locked up.

That is about as close to what I want as possible i think!! Thank you so much for the pictures!!! I will see if I can locate one, especially love the height!! I wanted no more than 6" or less! Is it strong enough to stack item's on?
Do you have any pictures of it installed?
Again Thank you!!!!

One of the main reasons I got it is because I can stack stuff on it. We just returned from a 6000 mile trip and it was piled with stuff the whole time. 2 generators, propane tanks, many misc other items. And normally it's got all my construction tools piled on. If you Google it you can see pics of it in the back of SUV's.

If it matters to you in your application that box clears the spare tire. It feels almost the entire space between the spare tire and the passenger side trim piece.

I am looking at having a custom round box built by a company in FLorida that makes a specific unit to replace the excursion spare tire. They are going to add in a door and shelves. I just need them to modify the door so it will clear the storage safe.
