F1 Bed Dimensions
Regardless of how sloppy the actual manufacturing was, in the beginning there was a blue print, and on paper at least it should look perfect.
I laid out bed wood for a USA F1, based on the generally accepted facts that the box is 49" wide, and the bed boards are 5-3/4" wide.
If I use a standard board gap of 7/16", the wood is wider than the bed by 1/16".
This leaves me wondering, what did the original blueprint look like. Would the engineer of the day really just have left some sloppy partial fraction on one of the dimensions?
As a side note, I had also heard that board gaps were 1/2". As can be seen in the drawing that would not be possible if the boards are actually 5-3/4".
