my 92 4.0l ex takes quite a few cranks over in the mornings to start. she just started this. always was pretty quick to catch before. idles fine when she does go but just seems to crank over about 5-10 times now before she catches? what should i checlk and do?
1st thing I would check is fuel pressure. The fuel system is supposed to hold pressure for an extended time after the pump has shut off. What sometimes happens is the system stops holding pressure which can cause it to take longer to start.
Could be a bad IAC... I would recommend checking this before the fuel system. Look for the sticky at the top of this forum on IAC. Very common on fords.
You can jumper out the fuel pump relay as a test. This will keep the pump on instead of just the 3 seconds when you turn the key on. Then a leak won't matter. On pass side of engine is the fuel rail with the regulator. There is a bycycle tube fitting to attach a pressure gauge. I stole a fitting from an old bike pump and attached it to a gauge. With some of these you need to unscrew the valve to get a reading. Pressure should be around 39# prior to starting and 33-34 at idle, hold at least 20# for 30 minutes.
