1978 F150 with a 460.
Been having some fuel issues so crawled under to look around.
Theres a valve / switch with 3 gaslines and a wire running to it? Right in front of rear gas tank.
one of the hoses goes up on top of rear tank?
First thing I noticed was it was black like a new hose the other 2 are grey/ brown colored.
So i reach up and grab it and its a gooey stickey mess?
its like its having some kind of chemical reaction?
Has anyone see this before or got any ideas?
im going to have to remove back tank to change it.
The switch is the dual tank switch. 78/79 dual fuel tanks frame switch-Duralast/Universal 3 port fuel selector valve used with SW48 toggle switch Part Number: FSV4. If you look up in there the switch's top line should go to your aft fuel tank sending unit. If you have big ol meat hook hands you are not going to like to have to replace that line. You have to pretty much disconnect it before you drop the tank anyway. So try it before you decide to drop the tank. Long handle, curved tip needle nose pliers.
No idea on the gooey line cause. Make sure your replacement gas line is EFI rated and it GAS line.
Fuel hose that isn't ethanol rated will melt. You have the end result of the failure. Replace with viton fuel hose, not the cheap fuel hose you find at the parts store which is Buna rubber.
