HAHA - yeah I am sure that 1 hour includes "thorough QA/QC validation" like Ford has been telling us all along they will be doing on the chip'd trucks before they ship. Also makes you wonder what all the dealers will do once trucks start piling up and the modules aren't shipping as they are supposed to.
Seems a pretty good way to skirt union labor rules...
It's silly, and misleading, to say they would be installing "CHIPS", they would, if they end up doing it, be installing the modules that have the chips in them.
People not in the know, seem to think some guy with a handful of computer chips would be going around the the deficient vehicles and inserting them into open slots somewhere to make the cars/trucks magically come to life.

Exactly. It's going to me mounting a module and connecting a plug into the socket. I'm not sure what kind of QA that's going to be missing.
Is it bolted in? Check
Is the harness connected? Check
Clean report on scan tool? Check
The modules themselves certainly have bench testing and rigorous QA. There isn't much that happens at a production system level.
I posted that article here for all to understand the implications of what it says.
While this article is not written the best, and it is a general article about all FORD vehicles, what it means is that the parts shortage due to the chip shortage, is not going away quickly. In fact, if you read the article, it says FORD is running out of room to store the vehicles it has built, but cannot deliver to the dealerships. Their solution is to outsource the storage, the final assembly to the dealers.
That gives the dealerships some product to show on their dealerships which has been running out of vehicles on the lot. FORD will train and pay the dealership mechanics to put the parts, modules, etc into the vehicles when they are available. And FORD does not have to shut down the assembly plants because they are unable to fully assemble their vehicles.

FYI.
Precisely, and the dealer will take "Ford's" pay-out and bury it. They can easily pad the expense back in to the new vehicle and make money.

Hasnt the union assembled the part and rest of the truck already?
This is a scary thought first of all my 3 local dealers here in the north east are always behind in the service dept. with employees not showing up for work routinely
second the techs that are working have done terrible work on my vehicles ex. wifes car in for an oil change came back leaking oil all over the driveway only when running, tech did not tighten up oil filter. One of my dump trucks in for some warranty work and also had them change out trailer plug had a crack in it(simple fix right) Nooo truck came back with no trailer lights working I took it apart and the wires were hooked up wrong.
I would not want these guys finishing off any of my trucks
