Rust spot on leaf spring

My truck was built on 6/2. I already have a penny sized rust spot on my driver side leaf spring right where the the rubber grommet attached to the frame would make contact with the overload spring when weighted down.

Is this a common problem? Seems way to early to see rust.

Many folks on the forum touch up any issues on the axles & suspension with black spray paint. Unfortunately it's not uncommon. I had the same issue on my 2020. I assume the leaf springs and axles sit outside somewhere before assembly. If you live in salt country, you might want to consider having the truck sprayed with Krown, Fluid Film, Woolwax, Corrosion Free or similar. I touched up all the axles, etc with spray paint before I had my truck sprayed with Corrosion Free.

It's going to happen, it's a wear point.

Kinda irks me I have to spray paint touch up an 80 thousand dollar truck.

That overload spring has never been touched by the rubber mounted on the frame. I haven’t had anything more than a beach cooler in the bed in the past 30 days.

The leaf springs are off a $30k truck.

My overloads touch over bumps while empty. It's a wear point so touch up paint will be temporary. Unless this is a show truck I wouldn't be concerned.

Yeah, that rust spot might cause a failure...

In about a hundred years!

Just wait, in time the whole leaf will have the same patina. This is a self-resolving issue.

You are in South Florida so the salt air is going to eat them up. You can spray them once or twice a year with rust converter to help them cosmetically but they are going to rust regardless.

You should have bought a 100K truck.

It is the suspension, a moving part for Christ's sakes. Perhaps you would like it so rigid you would never make contact.

You have a more legitimate gripe about other parts of the suspension such as the front axle that will rust or is not painted at all.

Tired about guys crying about buying an $80,000 truck it's ridiculous. So Upped like.

I agree. The next thing you hear is Ford should have put this or that in the truck just like MFG XYZ. My wife's XYZ has it and it only cost half as much as this truck. Why don't we have the options to turn off everything we don't like, bells chimes etc. They should have painted the entire frame and anything else because it is a 30K to 100K truck.

I bought my truck to pull a 14K dump trailer. I use my truck as a truck. I did wash, clay bar and do a paint correction on it a few weeks ago because I like to keep it clean. I also keep the interior detailed when I can. If I have rust under it on the frame I don't know nor do I care, it will take a few hundred years before it gets to be like the Toyota's where a few years ago.

If it bugs you paint it. 10K or 100K they all rust some place.

There's nothing about these trucks that is worth $80k. Thank the 25% import tax on imported light trucks for the huge cost of domestically built trucks.

The reality is that the chassis, axles, suspension, etc are coated just enough to look nice on a showroom floor or in the dealers lot. They will rust soon after you drive them in the rain the first time. If manufacturers actually made these things to stay "showroom fresh" for 10 years, maybe then it would really be worth $80k.

Consider yourself lucky if that is the only spot you see under there missing paint, with rust. Most of these trucks have numerous spots with little to no paint. You can find other posts and threads discussing the lack of paint coverage under these trucks. There are always those who don't care, and try to justify it by saying it doesn't matter because it has no impact on the longevity of the part. Then there are those like yourself, myself included, who find it disappointing. Some take the time to paint all the bits that Ford skimped on, I thought I would but haven't, and likely won't. To me the cost of the vehicle is irrelevant, as I've owned vehicles 1/3 the price with better coverage underneath. It's just Ford pinching pennies.

Search some videos and articles on the new F-150's, Ford seems to be even stingier with the paint under those. Some look like a 15 year old used truck underneath lol.
