Hey there enthusiasts! A few months ago I went from a Subaru Forester to a 2005 Excursion Limited (6.0 Powerstroke), with the intention of making an overland rig that can take the whole family of 5. When I bought Roxanne (that's what we named her) she had the lift, front bumper and wheels on already. Anything else you see on there I have added: Roofnest Falcon XT RTT, 23Zero Peregrine 180 Awning, a Truck Vault, a Console Vault, JVC KW-Z1000W with backup camera and an Edge CTS3. Had it out camping for the first time this last weekend and it did a rough road and stream crossing no problem. Even towed a Dodge Ram with 2 blowouts uphill for about a half mile! Easy for Roxy.
As a first time Powerstroke owner I'm looking forward to reading the experience in this forum and sharing about my build as it goes along. Overall the truck is in great shape- it has been looked over by Lucky's (power stroke specialists) here in Longmont and they found no signs of any of the usual issues found in 6.0's. Upcoming projects include mounting various attachments to the RTT, a water system, air compressor, new wheels and tires, and mounting the spare anywhere else but inside.
I'll update my signature once it lets me! On the day I got her! Day 1 After the RTT and awning RTT and awning opened up. On the recent inaugural trip The back of the rig, and the back of me!
I suggest reading up on the 6.0 powerstroke bulletproofing procedures, and planning it out a little at a time, there are lots of shops that can do it for you, some of it may already have been done for you. I'm sure someone else will come along and recommend one.
