Excursion Stalls In Drive
2000 Excursion V10 4x4 Limited with 200k mileage is now receiving its second Ford remanufactured transmission in 6 months . We where on a road trip traveling through Georgia in January the last time this happened, and thankfully the fine folks in the Stone Mountain area got us up and running in a few short days. It was diagnosed with a faulty PCM as well as the transmission failure. For some unknown reason the PCM was not signaling the transmission to shift correctly, and it led to a catastrophic failure. They patched us up and sent us on our way, truck ran great , pulled our TT home and we were fine.Few months later we were planning on traveling again, this time to Alabama, so I started with basic checks, fluids , filters and battery check, all were fine , until it stalled at a stop light on its way to have the oil changed. It would start, run fine ,and stall when shifted back into drive. It did not stall in reverse, so I was able to back out of the intersection and have it towed to Ford to have the warrantied transmission replaced. It’s been at the dealership for 7 weeks now and this morning I was told that the transmission was in but that the PCM needed to be replaced . I realize that they are probably just throwing parts at the problem and trying to eliminate some things, but my question is what would cause another short or failure with the PCM? Seems more likely to be a sensor or ground fault issue. Any suggestions or theories would be great, I will be seeking a new mechanic after the dealership returns my Excursion but for now it’s a hostage! I have searched many threads in the forum and haven't seen anything that reveals a root cause, thanks for any and all support, I love my Ex , but this is not helping my case with the wife on keeping it in the fleet if it leaves us stranded.
