Not having any luck with my search fu so going the lazy route here...
When I go over a bump, I hear a bunch of mattress-like squeaks from (I think!) inside the cab. They appear to be coming from behind/under the seat so I'm guessing the bench seat is the culprit but maybe not? If so, how do you remedy this - short of spraying lube all over the bottom of the seat? If it's not the seat, where should I be looking? I assume this is a pretty normal issue on a truck this old.
I had a similar issue and I tried everything inside the cab. It had gotten so annoying that my wife didn't want to go for drives with me, which we always loved doing! So, I tried spraying all down all the cab-mounts to no avail. Tried every possible interior culprit...again to no avail. After a few months of this I decided to see if I could tighten the cab mounts, but it turned out to be exactly the opposite! When I tried to tighten the passenger side rear mount there was no change. However, when I attempted to loosen it slightly it turned slightly and THAT got rid of the noise!
In essence I just had to break the corrosion that was causing the rubbing. Ever since it's been quiet as a mouse!
X2 ck cab mount hdwr, then with the truck NOT running bounce around the seat (I now that is a funny suggestion) and see if you can reproduce it. If you can reproduce it, then take the seat out (6 bolts) and flip it over and look at where the springs attach to the frame. You might see a broken spring and if not, apply a little spray white lithium grease to the spring/frame connection points. Then give it a test bounce while it is OUT of the truck. I am sure you neighbors will get a kick outa that. Lol
To remove the seat, w/d 40 the bolts front the top and bottom side. Than use a flat ratchet wrench on the front (1 each side, outside of slider) bolts going into the floor. Then slide the seat all the way fwd and then tilt it fwd and use a extension to easily reach the 2 back bolts (2 per side).
2 people make it easier to remove, but if you are going it alone just slide (careful to not scratch the floor paint with the slider feet) it out the passenger side, set the 1st end out down, just before the other end falls out. I use some ol carpet to prevent the concret from eating the corners. And then pick up the end left in and rotate it on the corner to clear the door.
