Step brackets
I've looked in the past, and haven't found anyone that duplicated them for any less. DieselBrad knew a guy that did them some years ago for $300, but I don't think he's doing it anymore. And it may have been more. It's been more than 5 years now.
Smitty Bilt tube steps for $75 in Colorado Springs
I do not know, nor do I have any type affiliation with the party linked above.
I was just flabbergasted at the price for the OEM replica supports for the fiberglass steps, so I was searching Craigslist in your area for the entire kit and caboodle.... a kid who doesn't like or need the fiberglass steps, and doesn't realize the scarcity of the brackets supporting them, due to them all corroding.
No sense in replacing them with the same thing... as it will only do the same thing.
It is understandable to want to keep the OEM look of the factory fiberglass running board... but it seems like $500 could pay for a better way to support it, using more durable materials.
My son's taking welding class at the local community college, so he's going to try to build some replacement brackets.
I'm absolutely astonished at the way these rusted away...I live in a dry climate, and the rest of the truck is spotless underneath. those must have been made out of recycled soup cans or something!
In reality, excellent school/college project.
I have thought about going to the school/college metal shop teacher, and say, hey, build me a set. Be cheaper than a fab shop.
I am currently doing some custom exhaust, the side step brackets are 2 pieces of bent pipe, with 2 hangers and 2 bolts. Should be easy and similar to any other pipe bending project.
The satisfaction of getting your kids to make them is priceless!
