On board compressor wiring help!!!!!

Hello everyone,

I have a question I am hoping someone can help me out with. So I am installing a viair compressor with a 2.5 gal tank. Attached is a pic of the wiring diagram that came from Viair. As of right now I am not installing air bags but will only be using the compressor to fill the on board take to power an air horn and for filling tires and other pneumatic tools. I will be wiring the compressor to one of my upfitter switches for power. The pressure switch that came with it will shutoff the compressor at 200psi and turn it back on at 165psi. Is there anyway to cut out the circled pressure gauge and switch when I wire the pressure switch? Since it will be going to an upfitter I do not need the on and off switch and since the pressure switch will turn it on at 165psi I don’t need the pressure gauge. Basically I need to know what to do with the wire that does from the pressure switch to the keyed power source.

I skipped that gauge when I did my vair. Your pressure switch is below the red circle and wired to the compressor. Wire that straight to the upfitter. If you don’t have any leaks that tank will hold just fine for the horn and barely ever need to be ran. I ran 2 air chucks, one in the rear and on the passenger side. Best part of the compressor install

also if you are running to #5 or 6 and using the correct size power lead, a relay isn’t needed.

You need the pressure switch to cut power when a certain pressure is reached. You can leave pressure switch in place just wire the wires that go to viair switch to upfitter instead.

Run the wire from the pressure switch right into your upfitter. Thats how i have mine wired.

When you turn the upfitter on it will bring it up to and maintain 165psi. If the upfitter is off the system is disabled and the compressor will never come on.

If you would like to keep the gauge you can run the output of the upfitter switch to the Keyed Power Source input. If you are going to remove the relay you need to be careful with the pressure switch - it is probably not rated to carry the full current load of the compressor.

^^ That would be correct. All you're doing is cutting out the pressure gauge and the switch that came with the compressor. The upfitter switch takes the place of the VIAIR switch and the gauge really plays no part in the way you want to wire it.
