Alright guys after being a long time lurker and searching for a truck I finally bagged me one. If I read right it’s a 56’ with inline 6 with an automatic. I think it was a good deal for only 2k or no? Definitely ready to get her running that’s for sure.
Looks good. Clean it up, get it running with that six and automatic, get it steering and braking, and drive the heck out of it! I would. I thought about putting a 240 or 300 six and automatic in my '56 Panel but I already had a 500 Cadillac that needed a job.
Keep us updated on your progress please.
Welcome! Get that beauty back on the road and resist any urge to immediately disassemble it.
Good advice! The young (15 at the time) man that had my last '56 truck before me, bought it and promptly took it apart in the barn where it sat for 16 years before I bought it and put it back together. I drove it for several years until another driver crossed the center line and hit me head-on, destroying the truck and almost killing me. Better luck with yours.
Welcome to posting on FTE! Great looking truck.
Be sure to download the free master parts catalog: https://charpindustries.com/diagrams/
It is two pdf's and an extremely valuable resource.
I tore my truck apart and it was many years before I got to take it on a first drive. I don't regret it, but unless you are planning on a focused restoration, I would also recommend getting it running and driving before you do anything major.
Does the engine turn? Where are you located?
Be sure to keep us informed and take lots of pictures.
Welcome to the forum. The reality is the purchase price won't matter much in the end if you take your project to any sort of completion. I would spend some time pressure washing it and assessing what you might have mechanically. Add an honest assessment of your skills, budget, and free time over the next few years.
Welcome to FTE
Like many have already said, get it running, stopping & steering in steps. There are MANY old projects out there that their owners took apart and got overwhelmed, disillusioned or just burned out. Baby steps and enjoy your new found project.

Yeah I've restored a 1949 John Deere Model B. Definitely know all of those feelings.
