Numbers Don't Lie 3.73 vs. 4.30 Explained

No need to ask, do the calculations yourself and you will know. The formula is RPM= Speed x transmission gear ratio x axle gear ratio x 336 divided by tire diameter in inches.

That's great, it should be a interesting seat of the pants comparison.
Back in the day when I had my 2 valve V10s and one of the contractors I worked with had the same motor but 3.73 gears he couldn't believe the seat of the pants feel with the 4.30s over his 3.73 gears.

Well, I have been on the fence about what gears to get in my ordered 23 f250 7.3. This has enlightened me. Sticking with the 3.73 but with the elocker. Was calculating my hauling miles and with about 7000 towing miles a year with a 9500lb TT from SW PA to FL, 3.73 will be fine for my situation. Coming from a 2012 F150 with 3.73 those gears are not the problem. It's the lack of power from the 5.0 engine with this set up. I'm sure the 7.3 will tow this with ease.

I don't even bother looking at my MPG because it's so bad but I have only put 3k miles on my truck in 6 months, if it were driven more like a DD I'd watch closer. I'm hooked up to my camper 60-70% of the time, less now that winter is here, or driving in town the other time. Just looking at the instant MPG, which isn't a great indicator I get single digits while going stop light to stop light or stop and go traffic. Once the tires get moving the MPG is pretty good, but getting them moving takes a lot of fuel apparently . I've tried to baby it and drove aggressive and don't see a lot of difference in MPG.

With 4.30's you could get over 16, with 3.73's you could get over 17. City is around 12-13 if you keep your foot out of it.
