Angry Giving Up Hope

Hey guys I am giving up hope for my 2000 F350 I purchased it in 2010 for too much money but it was fully loaded for its day it has every option available and the former owner also upgraded to a over/under overdrive transmission, and boy can she pull with a six speed transmission. The only thing that I have added to the truck was 19.5 rims and a edge performance chip. The former owner had already added the performance exhaust, intercooler, and intake. When I purchased the truck it had 92.000 miles and I had 8 wonderful trouble free years and put 40000 miles on the truck and then it happened. This truck is used to only pull my trailer and boat I went to gas up the truck for a trip stopped at a gas station gas up got back in truck turned key and ''Nothing" I had everything electrical working light, radio, windows, fans, everything worked except when you turn the key nothing happened the starter didn't nothing clicked the truck didn't attempt to turn over nothing. Called tow truck took three hours to show up turn key in truck to turn wheels and the truck started up like normal. I had the town truck driver take it to my local dealer to get looked over and they said that the truck had a bad starter which they replaced for close to 600 dollars. Drove truck home parked it thinking everything was okay until I went to use it a month later on a trip with my trailer and was 200 miles from home we stopped to eat got back in truck and again nothing all electrical items everything worked but not a sound or attempt from the starter. Had the truck towed to the closest shop and explained to the mechanic what happened and what was done to the truck. They kept the truck for 4 hours and said that I had a bad ground which they replaced for $350. We got to the camp ground no problems turned truck off went to start to move trailer and again nothing would not start or turn over now I was pissed and mad so we went to bed got up the next morning and tried to start truck and it cranked right up like nothing was wrong. Now I am confused as to what was going on with the truck. We packed headed back home and stopped for lunch went back to truck and again nothing no start nothing. We called a tow truck and before he got there which was about 2 1/2 hours later I just tried to start truck and it cranked right up like nothing was wrong now I am mad and confused. Drove the truck home took it back to the dealer the next day truck started up no problem at all. I explained to the dealership what was going on we went out to the truck and guess what no start no nothing but again everything electrical working. They kept the truck for 5 business days had me come pick it up and I was told that it had a bad oil pressure switch and when the truck warmed up that the switch was not allowing the starter to engage. They charged me $28 for the part and $1300 in diagnostic fees for that repair. I was mad but that was okay as long as it was fixed. The next time i used the truck was three months later tow my boat we stopped for gas and guess what no start no nothing again. Now I am really pissed so I left the truck sitting at the pumps while people were curssing me for blocking the pumps for a couple of hours and I turned the key and the truck started up like nothing was wrong. We took the boat to the lake and left the truck running for a few hours I was too scared to turn it off and have it not start again. Took the truck to a different dealership in the next town where I was told by Ford there was a expert 7.3 mechanic working that can diagnosed any problem with a 7.3. Took it there left it for 3 days I was called to pick it up and was told that it was fixed the mechanic took me out to the truck and told me that the truck had a bad relay and when it get hot it was not completing the circuit for the starter to engage. Well $945 later drove it home and turned the truck off tried to turn it back on and you know it will not crank nothing but again everything electrical in the truck was working. Called the dealership back to complain and I was told that they were not going to refund my money because according to the computer I did have a bad relay so they did not own me a refund. To make the story short I went out a purchase a Chevy 3500 durmax to tow my toys because I am fully frustrated with not be able to find anyone or dealership to fix my 7.3 that I love. So over the last three years I have only put 600 miles on it I only drive it places where I can leave it running or I know that I will be there longer than 3 hour. 3 hours seem to be the magic number of letting the engine cool down because I have now learned that the truck will only not start if it is hot or just been turned off. I have to let the engine cool down and it will start right up. If anyone knows a trick or have heard of anything like this happening to a 7.3 please, please drop me a line on how to fix this problem I want my 7.3 back on the road and I want to have trust that it will start up. HELP GUYS I am tired of the Chevy

.

I wish I could use this truck for my toys

I had to settle for this to pull my toys my F350 has let me down and no one or any dealer can fix her.

Lots of info there, glad you got started on the right track!

From what I can tell, it sounds like a bad starter.

Welcome aboard!
