Hi new to the FTE and forums so if this is in the wrong section my apologies,
I have a 1964 F100 that I have stuffed with left over parts that I had laying around. The engine is a Windsor V8 221 from a 1962 Ford Fairlane with the 2 speed Ford-O-Matic with an integrated bell housing. Everything is in the truck and running, but I don't have the drive shaft. Can anyone tell me what the spline count is for this transmission so I can order the yoke ?
You should be able to see the tip of the output shaft in the tail housing and count the splines to verify but I believe 25 is the number.
Thank you Dubya TF,
You are absolutely correct it is 25 spline. I got a few hours yesterday to pull the truck out and look. I just made one mistake, I never measured the thickness of the shaft. Seems like Ford made a 1 1/2 and 1 3/8 shaft. Any idea what the shaft thickness should be ?
Maybe it's just me but since you have a SBF why not swap in a C4 to get a good reliable 3 speed behind your 221?
Double or triple check that you have an aluminum case too. The link below has some tips on identification of this model transmission. Ford-O-Matic Transmission | Hemmings

I thought about swapping it out. It don’t think the two speed is going to like the extra power from the Twin Turbos. Not like the 221 is a huge power producing engine but it dose have some goodies on it. The build was not exactly well thought out but it was put together cheap for fun and morphed into what it is today. It runs better then I could ever imagined, just have not been able to put it in gear without the driveshaft.
The biggest problem is the C4 5 bolt bell housing are expensive and I have not been able to find one. But I agree the parts are limited on the 2 speed. 🤪

A twin turbo 221 will smoke either of those transmissions(if not itself first), depending on the setup. I had a C5 behind my old 302 that raced and it was all it could take.

No clue what your budget is but maybe contact Broader Performance on a C4 for your application. https://broaderperformance.com/
