I'm confused as to what plugs to get for my truck. Are there choices for high mileage engines that maybe need internal work as a "best plug" until an overhaul? Is there such a thing as a "winter" plug? I'm in NC and, yes, it does snow where I am. Last year it did quite a bit. Local parts place people contradict each other when asked what I should use in this vehicle.
Use the stock replacement Autolite plugs. You should replace them every 15000 miles anyway, so why waste your money on a $4 plug.
The ignition syustem in these trucks is designed to operate effectively with stock replacement parts. You can upgrade the whole system but its not really necessary, if you plan to replace small parts at a time, carry an extra ignition module and starter solenoid, they can wear out when you really need them.
One thing for upgrading ignition components is that they will help your gas mileage, so will basic tune ups.
I run Autolite platnum plugs in my truck, they hold up great I get good mileage and performance. I use 8.5 mm wires with them and a high output Accel coil.
I like Bosch Platnum Plugs. I ran them in by 4x4 with a 351M with 230,000 miles and I realy like them. I like them so much im going to swich them out of my 351M (which is laying in the yard) to my 460 since their the righ heat and size. Also the price isn't bad at $2.00 a peice and they have a gauarentee that they willl add power. Just my $0.02
