You know, what goes around comes around. I swear, if you arent looking out, there are alot of insurance agencies (state farm) that are out there just looking to screw the living $&@# out of you. i'm sorry if your a good honest agent or somthing, but there are alot of rotten adjusters/agents/companies out there. Tornado of 98 that hit st peter for example. first adjuster from state farm came over, said it would cost 32,000$ to fix our house. He was walking around trying to tell us that there was evidence that the 2 inch crack in the wall was there before. We hired a private adjuster and he said that it would be 99,000$ to fix it, which we thought would be more realistic, seeing as to our garage had been relocated to our neighbors yard. Its a good thing my dad was on his toes, cause they tried to pull this before to a veichle with hail damage. They sit there and do this to people in disasters, and other hardships in their life, and wonder why people are pissed off at them and are always trying to "screw them back" (i thought it was funny how right after the tornado they put up a sign on their door that says, "No Weapons Beyond This Point")

I"m not saying that i cheat insurance companys or anyone for that matter, i'm just saying that somtimes they're gonna get whats coming to them, cause they deserve it.

You just need to know your facts, and don't let anyone take advantage of you. If you show that you are uninformed, most anyone will jump at the chance to take your money.

Cheating on Taxes, hell how about people that do not file taxes year after year. They should be shot.

As regards to insurance, I (Hold your breath) like my insurance company. I had a laptop stolen out of my office when I was at a football game (I am a teacher/coach) and I had renters insurance at the time. The administrator asked that I not make a police report (Look bad for the district you know), but wait and see what he can do. I waited two weeks and in passing, he said he could do nothing. (Rectum hole) I then contact my insurance company and they ask me for a police report and I told them the situation. They told me to go and make a report and get a copy and send it to them. The computer was $1900, but I had it in a case with other software and work that I had been doing, so I valued it at $2200. Two weeks later, I get a check for $2700 and I called the insurance company to ask why I got more than I valued at. (I was 25 and this was the first claim) The agent told me that they calculated all of my time that had to be replace, because of all of the work, I lost, lost programs and time to set-up a new computer.

Every incident with my company has been great and I would never change for the “lower price”, because I am convinced that you get what you pay for.

Grape - I can agree with the "honest" part but the problem is "the book". The tax codes are over 60,000 pages and NOBODY (including IRS reps) fully understands them all. Before I made my graceful exit from the rat race I wrote complex proposals and at one time installed large process control computer systems that controlled an entire manufacturing process, yet I have to pay a CPA over $200 to fill out the various forms and schedules the government requires. The current tax codes are an affront to citizens. There have been cries re reform from various politicians, but a fair and simple method of collecting taxes is not forthcoming and that's a shame.
I wouldn't dream of denying that as Full-Blown Truth, Dono. I always did my own taxes when working for someone. No big deal. When I started the business and had the forms sent to me,,,,:-staun Forget It! I spent all of about five minutes leafing through them and then picked up the phone and started shopping for a CPA. She was the only one that flat out admitted that she didn't know all the tax laws, so I trust her Three years later, she's still doing a great job keeping it all in order. The first two years, I called the IRS myself after my taxes were filed to make sure she had done everything she was supposed to. Besides the run-around on the phone and the hours of being on hold, it was worth it to know she was/is competent. Luckily I never want to have a very "big" business, so it shouldn't get too much more complicated. Next step is Incorporation, but my attorney already has that all laid out for me when I'm ready. I don't see much of a chance of any drastic reform of the IRS in our lifetimes. Perhaps we may want to keep an eye on Boston Harbor and wait for some tea-laden ships to come to port

You may call it cheating; we call it "Loop holes" .

Not that I make an exorbitant amount of money, just like to hang on to what I worked my **** off for .

In addition, NO I do not trust my government to spend my money wisely.

Just my 2¢ (that they can have)

Aztrainer- if you dont mind me asking, what insurance company do you have? I think we have somthing through Pell Insurance, which has been really good so far. Even with a recent hail damage claim, they were great! Theyre pretty nice people also.

I strongly believe it is your right/duty to "arrange" your affairs to pay the least amount of tax possible. I don't think you should lie or cheat, but arranging your affairs to pay the least possible is perfectly allright with me.

If it's legal to do it, go for it.

And don't mess with your odemeter either!

We do pay too much in taxes as a society- but don't cheat. But take the breaks that are offered too.

Aztrainer- I think most people that don't even file actully would be getting a refund. Thus the government has no reason to go after them.

Oh, the joys of the W2 Withholding.

Well if you really want to get technical & you can research this as well if you like.

TAXES ARE ILLEGAL
It originally started by the government asking people to pay taxes to help support a war. After the war had ended then the taxes were suppose to end with it. This was not the case, the war ended & taxes continued.

Now cheating? I don't cheat. I got this little conputer program that asks me simple question. I fill in the blanks & the computer does the cheating for me!

I file legally every year.I usually get $2500-$3000 back.No need to cheat. The cheaters are only cheating themselves. They will think twice when they retire or get caught.I know a few who have been nabbed. It's not pretty.

Personnally, I use Turbo Tax for my federal taxes. Have used it for about 4 years now. Basically asks questions and I answer them honestly. Have gotten back anywhere from $2500 to $3500. This refund is also based on my withholdings from my employer, set up by my request on my W4. Also, using common sense on deductions which are available to everyone.
Do I cheat? Not at all. I use the system as it is written. I'm sure if I went to a CPA, and paid a fee (vs. free/me) Iwould probably get back more money.
I used a "Tax Guy" one year, sat with him for all of 10 minutes. He filled out the papers, blatantly LIED about my deductions, charged me $75, and sent me on my way. Did he cheat? No, he used the system, knowing how much he could get away with, without getting me audited. Thats just the way it is. It won't change until there is an outright overhaul of the Tax System in this country.

I use www.taxact.com

It is pretty much the same as turbo tax & all the other & much cheaper then going to a CPA or H&R.
Hell, H&R uses the same programs available to us, just charge us a arm & a leg to input everything.
