Dear sir
My 91 ford f150 has developed an intermittent ignition problem characterized by occasional stalling, dropping revs with constant pedal pressure, failure to pick up on acceleration, and
intermittent check engine light. No power up hills
with spluttering of the engine when put under load. The mechanic said fuel pressure was ok and put in a new filter. No codes when he checked it.
he cleaned the battery terminals and sure enough the problem seemed to have resolved. A week later and it's back. The idle has also been a little rough lately.
Thanks for any help
Cris
Your catalytic convertors may be bad. I know I have said that to alot of people on here but, Those two pesky little things the Gov't says have to be on there can cause all sorts of problems.
Try going to a mufler shop and see if they'll do a backpressure check on your truck.
Another thing it could be is your fuel pressure regulator.
Just a couple of things you might try.
Hope everything eventually works out for you.
I know I spent over 1 year and $1,000 trying to figure mine out.
But, don't let that discourage you. Mine was driven over a million miles of bad roads with an equally bad driver!
Cris , What engine in your truck , how many miles ? Since there were no codes Id suspect either a fuel or ignition problem . Your tech said the fuel pressure checked out Ok so that leaves the ignition . When was the last time the plugs , wires , cap & rotor were inspected & or replaced ? Also , since the problem you said seemed to remedy itself after the battery terminals were cleaned a further inspection of the cables to the solenoid & starter wouldnt hurt . Bad grounds can cause a lot of erratic problems with Efi engines .
Thanks for your help so far guys.
It's a 5l V8. The motor was completely rebuilt
about 10,000 miles ago at 132,000 miles after it overheated and a piston melted.
I'll check out the wiring and change the HT leads etc.
Thanks
