could you upgrade the charging system on a 79f150 and what would you use ...im thinking aboult a new alt .. one from a 88 e250 van also can you change the power steering pump over to a late model serpentine type ....one belt for ever thing how aboult the water pump can you use a late reverse pump with the early timing cover some say yes some say it will overheat last will a 88e350 rad 3 core fit in a 79 thanks
lxman1 ~ my 74 with the '85 460 in it still has the alt from the older 6 banger that used to be in the engine compartment. As I plan on "adding some toys" in the near future - was your 100AMP alternator a direct bolt in? Didn't have to do anything with the voltage regulator or anything?...
The van rad is physically the same size, you just have to make 1 new hole on the rad side plate to put it in.
On edit:
It's the same size if you already have the wide rad in the 79, I think the stock 302 rad is about 4" narrower. I put a new rad spec'd for 351/400 in my 79, and had to change the rad support.

It is physically a bit larger than the standard alt. I used the low mount bracket that was already on the engine.
You may be able to reuse the adjusting bracket, I do not know for sure. If you could find a mid 70's LTD or other big car with a 351W, you could probably use those brackets if it has the big alt.

How did a C&%#* engine get into the ranger. I am thinking that you live in Kansas and those big tornados do some strange things. I have seen them take a piece of hay and stick it thru a tree. So I guess one could shove a &^$%# engine into a Ranger!
