Hello all, I have an f350 with the 460 that I acquired after my grandfather passed. I have changed out the rear lights to LED bulbs. They are 3157. The issue I am having is when the key is on but no lights on, the rear tail lights illuminate very dim. But when I turn the lights on, the act as though the brake pedal is pressed. But if I turn the lights off and drive during the day they act normal. I can’t wrap my head around it. Just the key in ACC when the key is on and the lights are on too When just the lights are on.
E4OD transmission? if so, there is your problem. E4OD's rely on the amperage of the rear tail lights to lock/ unlock the torque converter. Multiple threads about this.
LED's do not supply the needed resistance (amperage load) that the computer is looking for to lock /unlock the E4OD's torque converter. Replace the LED's with normal incandescent bulbs and I bet there is no low glow and your tranny shifts better. I am only a lowly industrial master electrician. your mileage may vary ( I tried it on my truck with an E4OD)
IF it is NOT an E4OD transmission, start by making sure grounds are clean and solid an LED bulbs are inserted right.

I wouldn’t have ever thought to even look about the tranny. But yes it does have the e4od
can you point me in the correct direction of the thread or how to find it? Very very new here but I got my answer way faster than I could google it.
