I have brought a wonderful E200 1974 Ford Econoline.
We are restoring it from top to bottom!! It's a project my partner and I are extremely excited about! We are currently working on the Power steering cylinder and was hoping to clean it up and replace the seals and so on but after cleaning it up we have discovered the bar is bent on the actual cylinder (Part number LARES 10077) I have been searching high and low literally worldwide and cant seem to find one can anyone help or direct me in the right direction? All help greatly received
Jimbomitch is correct. If the rod comes out, they might also be able to make a new one. I am having a new spindle made for my right front steering knuckle and the shop quoted $80 to $100. That is close to what some salvage yards wanted for a used one. Check with more then one shop as prices vary as does experience..
I would take a close look at using a power assist cylinder off of a mustang or early Corvette or whatever used them back in the day. My '56 chevy had power assist from the factory, so look into classic chevy PS stuff.
Be careful with that, many like to play with adjustments, if you do and manage to remove all road feedback you will find it is impossible to keep it going straight between the lines on the road, it'll want to wander side to side, I have read that complaint often, I don't know if there are any shops left that know how to adjust those, they are hydraulic assisted steering, worked great with oversize tires on the trucks, I hated the one on dads 76 F100 tho, was hard steering, even after it was rebuilt, they found his was bent too.
