The brackets to the 2017+ Super Duty are entirely different than the brackets to the 1999-2016 Super Duty.
The good news is that 1999-2016 actually began production at the beginning of 1998, and therefore offers 18 production years of choices in running boards that actually will fit without issue.
I went with GoRhino RB20. They are style after the Raptor, heigh and tight. Big appeal for me was that they not only block rocks and road projectiles, but the stick out further than the body. So if someone decides to swing open their car door next to you, they will hit the running boards and not the truck.
Yes they will fit, you will just have to mount them with the older 2016 down brackets. I did the same thing on my 2000 F350 with 2018 up extended running boards. People kept telling me the same thing on here a couple months ago...that it couldn't be done, well here you go...
BWGuardian: I want those!! I have a 2002 F250 CC XLT. How much were they? My originals are kinda banged up and I wonder about some rust spots under the doors. I believe the OEM used 4 brackets. You think you could snap a pix of the mount under the door area? Those are exactly something I could use..

With enough time and talent, anything can be customized for mere money and materials.
The retrofit of the 17+ running boards with 1999-2016 brackets shown by bwguardian looks great...
But the extended portion is missing the supporting structure that prevents the aft portion of the step to access the bed from bending downward when used.

I paid $200 for them, and there are other sets locally around here for about $250...there are fewer of the extended version. I guess most are wanting the power folding units like AMP Research has and now Ford has them as an option...which is why these are no longer available from Ford. I like the looks of the power folding units but there is alot of support harnesses and such for them...plus I've not heard good things about them when you get them off road in the nasty stuff.

That support structure looks like this:

The newer Ford factory running boards with the extension use three brackets...one of which is the one pictured for the extension. The newer regular Ford factory running boards without the extension use only two brackets. The older factory Ford running boards use three mounts as pictured in mine above. I'm okay with not having that extension support for several reasons, but the most important one is I've tested it and it's fine without it.
I’m wanting to change my running boards on my 2012 f150 xlt supercab. They are too close to my truck and I want to have some lower and out a bit further. Also which years of the f250 and f350 will fit? Thanks

Great job... love the built not bought attitude...
I did not know Ford made wheel to wheel running boards. Might have to look into that.
I want to go with Ranch Hand's wheel to wheel running boards but would scuff them up and have them sprayed with bedliner... looking at Bullet Liner, they developed Line X, sold it off then started Bullet Liner later...
But have to admit, I like the look of those 18 running boards... thanks for posting up.

Thanks, been thinking about moving on to some electric power steps now...
