2008 F150 - interior light / outside bed light stays on? Help...

Hello all,
I recently bought my friends 2008 F150, that has the 4.6L engine. Vehicle has 182,000 miles. I was having "intermittent" issues with the interior light / outside bed light staying on, after I open my door., and then close the door....now it has went from "intermittent" to "all the time". When I close my door, the stupid interior light and outside bed light stays on. It is pissing me off when I drive at night especially. I am used to seeing the metal "door switch" on my other vehicles, that when pressed in, shuts this interior light off . I see some sort of "plastic rod" that is attached to the door on this 2008 F150, and when the door shuts, it seems like it might press "some switch" that is within the sheetmetal structure?? But it is obviously not working... When I shut the door for the last time of the day. . the damn light stays on for 15 minutes or so, when the "timer" finally times out ...(is this timer on the body control module?). This cant be good for my battery....Has anybody had this issue, and how can it be alleviated? Any and all input is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm surprised your BRAKE light isn't staying on because there's a 99% chance this is your instrument cluster.

You can attempt to re-solder or send out for repair.

I know it seemingly makes no sense but Ford ran the dome light and a great many other things through the instrument cluster.

If you do send it off be sure to note any other problems with your cluster. Does the Airbag light work? All backlighting including ODO? Does the BRAKE light ever flicker or does it even work at all? Also one place told me they should be able to unsolder the TPMS light in my quest for TPMS disable.....something to consider

coincidently, yes, My "brake" light on the cluster does intermittently come on/off, and it just started doing it recently......but NOT the brake light at rear of vehicle...

This has nothing to do with your brake lights in your tail lamp housings.

If you get a "new" or used or replacement or different cluster you'll need to program the ABD (as built data) from your old to your new with Forscan.

I'd send your present cluster off for repair. NOW, if you have an XL cluster and want XLT (with tach) that's a different conversation. But if you already have a tach I'd send your present cluster out for repair

Dimmer switch

Only read ypur post quickly. But i had similar on my one. I had rotated the dash dimmer switch fully. Which means the lights stayed on. Or if my doors are not quite shut and locked the lights stay on for a bit too.
worth checking befire spending out on it.
Hope you get it sorted.
