I have not done it, but I saw a video on youtube. His turned out very nice. One thing I thought he should have done, is seal both sides and the edges before covering it. If I ever do it, I'll definitely put several coats of spar urethane on it before covering it. I have that stuff on the ceiling and walls of my shop. It's held up well, even where the AC unit dripped on it.
I got one of the reproductions off ebay and I have to say it's not bad. comes in most colors and it wasn't expensive. I put my original XLT vinyl on it so it wasn't that important to me I just needed a base but even in it's perforated carboard form it looked pretty original.
Well i used luan to make a new headliner.
i sealed both sides with epoxy primer and let that cure up for couple of weeks( no real reason for that just busy with other stuff) then wife putt some thin padding material and covered with vynil.
it came out all right, but i wouldn't do that again. I don't think you could put it in by yourself. Even with help it took some descriptive language. This the only picture i took of it.
