Were original carpets molded?

Pulled my carpets out to mat the truck I assumed they were a home because they were cut and overlapped to follow the contour of the trans lump but then the jute insulation and the glue up was really tidy and well done. Just curios if the originals were molded.

Also what are the pros and cons of a longer nap on the carpet?

Yes the originals were molded. and much better than the ACC crap molded carpets we're stuck with today. cut and sewn was a common replacement .

I recently installed some ACC Essex with mass backing and it was well made with perfect fit. Perhaps not quite original equipment but I would not call it crap.

I've installed at least a dozen ACC sets over the years and they're crap. the mass backing helps according to some people and doesn't from others, if there is such a thing as good fitting ACC carpet this would be the secret. .

if you'd never tried a Trim Parts brand carpet set I can see why you might think ACC is acceptable, but the difference is sickening . having no other choice I bought a ACC set for my high boy last year and to no surprise it fits like chit. I tried heat, glue, screws everything. I hate it. a company like this can only survive in a market with no competition.

But back to the Op's question yes it was molded and it was high quality. as far as the depth of the material that's your choice but I never cared for the **** look even back in the 70's. but that extra fluff might help fill some of the wrinkles in ACC's carpet so you might consider it. put it in and give it a hair cut maybe that would smooth it out.

I would call it crap because I've had the pleasure of using quality carpet sets before. ACC sucks. I've used at least a dozen sets over the years due to the lack of an option and they ALL fit like crap. like putting socks on a chicken they just don't fit.

The OP asked about the depth of the material, my advice is get the **** carpet and after you install it give it a hair cut and maybe it will smooth some of the wrinkles out .

Not sure about anymore but at one time you could order Untrimmed from ACC and it game you a little more carpet on the edges. The few I have installed didn't fit the best but was better than the old torn and filthy. I've installed 2 new carpets in Fords that were bought over the parts counter at Ford dealer. The fit was amazing, unrolled and done, not one wrinkle. Maybe a guy could stop and ask a upholstery shop what brand the worked with.

Stock interiors is ACC. ACC makes the carpet for nearly everyone if not everyone.

There is supposed to be one other manufacturer and rumor is they're better. considerable more expensive but that's fine if it's better. I don't recall their name, I've been hoping to read something confirming it but so far i can say for sure. if it's true I'll buy a set and put my ACC in the trash can where it belongs.

Just installed some ACC carpet. The essex with mass backing. Mine actually fit really well. Was a little big and ended up cutting off most the binding to get it in. Didn't mind, all the edges are covered. All the molded parts fit great. No wrinkles. No glue or fastening. Went in sweet. Had carpet from LMC that I think is the same brand. Standard carpet and backing. Was not happy with it at all and got the new stuff.

Dang.... after all this I am hoping people have had better luck with the rubber flooring from ACC. I just ordered it off Rock Auto Rock and it arrived in an ACC box... I wasn't sure where to get the flooring, so I ordered from them. I have yet to install it, but am hoping the rubber flooring is much more forgiving than the carpet.

How big is the box it came in? I'm thinking of buying a carpet, but I live in Germany so package size and weight is a factor in shipping cost. Hell, it'll probably be cheaper to go to an upholsterer than to buy and ship one from the US.

If you order do your home work on which trans hump you have regard less of the trans you have. Mine was different then what acc's info suggested but luckily I researched it first and ordered the correct carpet the first time and it fit pretty well ever with the stock style jute backing. The marked hole for seat belts and seat bolts and dimmer also lined up.

I was hearing the same thing then compared the cost of non acc and for my project it wasn't worth it. For a truck as nice as 440s it would be a no brained to step up to better quality imo. But mines just a beater compared to a nice restoration so I took the chance and got lucky or have low standands lol.
