Generally? No, it isn't usually worth it, especially if it isn't backed by the company that produced the vehicle. If it is third party then definitely not.
I will admit to purchasing an extended warranty on my Power Wagon though. Why? Because Mopar backs it, and it is what was known as the Lifetime MaxxCare - meaning for the life of the vehicle, if something fails that isn't a normal wear item (for instance, it doesn't cover brake pads or rotors but DOES cover wheel bearings) then I pay a $100 deductible and they fix it.
Ford has an extended warranty that, from what I can tell is fairly decent. However, it's not lifetime (which Ram discontinued anyway), so it's kinda a gamble on if it's going to be worth it or not. Everyone really has to evaluate their situation and see if that peace of mind is worth the money.
Ford ESP is a good warranty. There are a couple or more levels, so compare before you buy. Prices are negotiable. You can buy it as long as the OEM factory warranty is in place, and you a can buy it from any dealer, afaik.
I have had mixed results with extended warranties. I got a radio out of the one on my Toyota. On prior Fords--A/C, transmission, a couple other items. So I'm money ahead so far.
I have not ever purchased an extended warranty on my vehicles.
I have purchased them for my off road toys and my toyhauler. I've never used them for the off road toys, but did get some stuff fixed on my toyhauler right before the warranty expired (at the end of 5 years) They nit picked some of the stuff, but I was fine with most of it. I probably broke even on the deal or did a little better.
As for my new truck that I haven't received yet, I'm looking at doing the Ford ESP Premium Care for 100K/8 years - just because of all the tech on the truck. Its about 2 grand through Flood Ford. I know if the entertainment system bricks, it would eat that up pretty quick. Not to mention the LED lights and plenty of other items.
Never, up until the last two new vehicle purchases, 2017 and 2019, then yes. Both are factory extended warranties. 2019 Chrysler is an unlimited time/mileage. Ford is 8yr/70K. I'm less concerned about the drive train than I am about electronic systems. I expect an electronic system failure may result in replacing parts (modules, sensors) until the problem is solved which adds to the cost of any future failure. Added benefit is factory extended warranty also includes cost of rental car if warranty repairs take more than a day (optional coverage covers same day rental).
This really is a personal decision based on your level of risk avoidance. If you decide to get one, shop around. You don't have to buy it from the selling dealer at the time of vehicle sale. You can buy it later. There are authorized dealers that sell on-line at significant discount.
Typically I buy them at the end of the factory warranty from Flood. It's where my sales guy sent me to get one as he doesn't really make any money off if it himself. When I trade in early, I submit for a refund of premiums from Flood, save it and put towards the next one.
I have purchased extended warranty on several vehicles.
One was an early model Expedition. Glad we had the extended warranty since around 75k miles, the engine started making noises like it was coming apart. Turns out Ford tried coating the pistons and cylinders with Teflon, which wore off with time and use. This caused the gaps between piston and cylinder to increase, allowing too much slop. Engine had to be rebuilt, $5,900. but only cost us the $100 deductible.
We've had extended warranties save us on a few other instances, but that was the biggest.
With all the computers/electronics now days and the inability for the average guy to do much beyond an oil and air filter change, I think extended warranties make more sense than they used to.
A Chrysler Pacifica (the one based on the Mercedes touring wagon, not the current mommy van) we owned, had the main computer go wonky. New computer was $3,500 plus labor for a car with nearly 200k miles and a book value of about $5,000 at the time.
We each get to make a decision on whether or not we trust the vehicles we buy to work as advertised and how we hope. Personally I thing the 3/36 warranty is too short.
It depends for me.If it is on something I am somewhat knowledgeble about, then I might forgo the extended warranty. With all the information on just about anything out there nowadays,I feel pretty confident most times.Now..on something I don't know much about-2019 F250 diesels_I will buy the extended for the piece of mind...especially as was mentioned before....the electronics.I do all the basic maintenance, but if anything major goes south,I'd feel better taking it in.
Yes ....... NO
Do you buy the extended warranty when you buy a new vehicle?
For peace of mind because of all of the electronics on newer vehicles, you should just purchase a Ford Premium ESP that covers everything for the maximum amount of years and miles that’s offered.
Here’s an example…..
I’m not sure if you have the factory LED headlights but to replace one of those headlights, because they’re not serviceable, with labor, you’re going to be pushing the $2K mark.
That one headlight is more than half the cost of the Ford Premium ESP that I mentioned above.
Check online at Flood Ford and Lombard Ford for your best price and ask your dealer if they can match or beat it.
Is anybody out there from Florida using a Ford Premium Care warranty sold by Zeigler? A Zeigler sales person has a Florida liscense, but it doesn't look like the company does. It isn't clear to me whether this is ok or not.
I will wait until after I get the truck and use my ford pass points to take a couple hundred bucks of the top. Will use the Flood Ford site to purchase.

If I'm finding the correct site for that, it seems to be down. www.floodfordesp.com

Post back up if Flood actually uses your points towards an extended warranty.
