bump stop clearance

I have a 56 F100. I have got my truck at a good stance. The problem I have is the bump stops. My clearance between the frame and diff is 3" with out the bump stop installed. I have the lowered 3" shackle in the rear and the lowered front bracket of the leaf spring. I can go back to the original rear stock shackle and adjust the front bracket also. I don't want to do the flip axle. What is the least amount of clearance for the bump stops with out bottoming out?

That is a trick question. Without knowing your set-up, i.e. shocks, springs and front suspension, if you carry any weight/loads and the quality of your roads it is impossible to to know what type of travel you will get at the rear, but I have always considered 2" to be minimum. A bestfriend is a chassis builder and that is also the minimum he also goes for.

You wont know for sure until a spirited test drive. A dab of grease will leave a mark if you want do a few tests. It's not the end of the world if it barely makes contact on a real hard bump. I sure wouldn't design my truck in a manner where binding the suspension was.a normal occurence.

I have mustang II front end Qa1 shocks in the front, and going to the same brand in the rear. I was trying to get my ride height in the rear before ordering them. I am getting the ones that have the single adjustment. ( I believe there is 18 settings?) Small block engine. For the most part roads are paved here and it will only see a dirt road once in a blue moon. Here is the stance I have now. Thanks for all your help.

I would probably put the truck on stands and add weight to simulate loaded. Plus full fuel tank and a little margin for error. I think a speed bump or a pothole is probably the most suspension deflection a cruiser truck ever sees. The adjustable shocks will help you.
