TRUE, got a ques................if i can get a 15.9 with my setup, in your opinion where would I be with a 50 shot.............Tom has pretty much convinced me to do it.
It really depends strick88. If you used it correctly and didn't just spin out the whole time, you'd probably get into the low 15's and maybe high 14's.
That 50 shot will drop a full second off your time, or close to it. So if that puts you in the 14's your gonna need some big beef out back and a locking diff, otherwise your just going to sit and spin once you flip that switch.
Going fast is more than just the motor, it's putting that newly found horsepower to the ground.
My suggestion,
More rubber out back. V,Z or W rated tires nice a fat.
Limited slip differential
Possibly a set of traction bars for the rear
a set of Eddlebrock shocks all the way around would keep everything planted perfectly
A cold six pack of Budweiser for after you get done blowing the lightnings off the track.
Yes, I was still spinning on the OEM truck tires. Very hard S rated rubber.
That's why I put the Kumho's on this week. But I didn't get to test them yet because of the rain. I feel pretty confident that they will keep me from spinning.
Check out Steeda for the Auburn lsd and probably 150 for an install.
You can get the Budweiser at any liquor store for about 4.25 : )
Which drop kit did you use. I'm thinking of a 2 inch drop my self.
Did you have to replace the spindles, shocks and springs? Was it the full kit, or the cheapo kit?
Did you notice any handling problems after the drop, or did the handling improve?
Tom
I know I'm not strick, but I'll put an answer to this. When you drop a truck (from experience) you get much better cornering and handling. Depending on what drop kit you use and how much you drop it will depend on how rough the ride will be. Also keep in mind (and I'm sure you already knew this) that it is a 2'4' drop, not a 2' drop. ie: 2 is the front/ 4 is the back
In other words, if you were to drop a truck you could go with a 2/4 or a 3/6 and so on. From what I've heard GForce and Belltech are the best truck drop kits. A 2/4 drop kit with the GForce is about $450 without installation. That's the cheapest I've found for the best quality. Also, if you (TOM) were to drop your truck with those tires, you would notice a better traction and acceleration difference due to aerodynamics. A dropped truck will beat a raised truck any day given they are the same in specs.
I did the beltech 3/4 drop and loved it. The only hard part was the rear. If you want to do it yourself you need to get a hold of an air chizzle. There is no way around it. Its easy to do, IF you have the right tools.
In my town the install for the 2/4 is $300. That's a little steep in my opinion...I'm sure you'd get a better deal. Which are you interested in? Belltech or the GForce?
I'm also considering the 2/4 to get a little better handling. Here is an interesting article about a guy race prepping his lightning. The guy does a good job of listing the pros and cons of the various suspension packages.
I'll have to check them both out. I want a quality job. I don't want my front wheel bent out to the side. I want it to look and perform like it was from the factory. Otherwise, I'll just run into more problems.
