51 F-1 cab to frame clearence
The cab on my truck has some serious rot. Floors need to be removed completely and replaced. We were going to flip the cab over and weld in a 1X1 support frame inside the rocker panels up against the bottom of the floor, but are not sure if we have room to make this a permanent structure or not. Can anyone help with pictures of this area or maybe some measurements to let us know if this can be done or not? We will be going back with stock cab mounts.

I agree. My 51 F1 has minimal clearance between the bottom of the floor and the frame. When I replaced the front cab mounts, front floor, toe boards, and rocker pannels, I welded in an X brace about 6 inches above the floor and welded braces in the door opening front to rear. 6 inches above the floor will provide plenty of space to work and will keep the cab square. Make sure you weld all the braces before cutting any of the old sheet metal.
Remember, these trucks are war era vehicles with poor tolerances and inconsistent welds. 1/8 inch tolerance is OK. Just do the best you can.
