Hello all, I have a 1992 F250 2WD with about 180k miles, and for a while my front end, specifically the front driver side tire/wheel area, has been doing this clicking noise. I normally have my music loud enough to not hear it, but it seems to increase clicking speed as my wheel turns faster. Additionally, as I've ignored this problem (of course), I've started to experience a classic death wobble for about 4-5 seconds when going about 30-40mph. It's only happened two or three times, hasn't lasted long at all, and never while I was going above 40mph. I've jacked the car up and the wheel doesn't wobble or shake, and all the lugs are tight. The problem seems to keep getting worse, and I've had friends tell me it's most likely a wheel hub issue, but I'm not sure. Classic googling of this problem seems to yield problems with 4 wheel drive trucks, which mine is not, so I'm trying to look for any help before I go in and replace the hub assembly. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as I would hate to spend some change fixing something that isn't causing this problem. Thank you so much!
You could always swap that tire with a different one to see if it helps. Sometimes tires can cause crazy issues. That'd be an easy, free way to check. Then you could eliminate the tire and wheel as a culprit, or show that is was indeed the culprit.
I'm not super familiar with the 2wd setup so can't help much more.
Check the anti-rattle clips, the caliper bracket bolts, and the caliper pins/bolts (I can't remember if '92 is still using the rubber center pins, or had switched to the GM style caliper slider bolts.) It could very well be one of the brake pads, or the caliper bouncing around.
