I have an '03 navigator and wanted some advice about wheels for it. Right now, it has the stock 18 inch rims with Michelins on it.
am I best to stay with 18's? - I need sort of all weather handing and ride - I never take it off road - but it does see snow for sure as Im in New England. - I just want the best thing I can put on this, and a good recommendation for an upgrade for the rims? - the chrome plating is starting to peel on these, and you can hear it when you are rolling.
are the stock rims better than anything I would find after market? - how about Perrelli tires vs the michelins I have now? - I think they are the XTs if Im not mistaken. 2 of the four have slow leaks, but my guess is from dry rot since they are 12 years old now - sadly, they have plenty of tread left (not a daily driver)
I'd like to stay with silver since it's a Black SUV, and the chrome/silver is sharp with the black. - thanks all :-)
Unless there is a specific rim you really want (doesn't sound like it), I'd buy a set of new takeoffs. I know you have a Navigator, but you can find takeoff sets from Expedition and F150 all the time for 600-800. That's basically new tires and wheels in 18" or 20". If you're patient and willing to spend more, you could even get a Navigator takeoff set. And I think OEM wheel finishes last longer than aftermarket wheels.
The only issue with F150 wheels is the rear axle stub is usually too long to use the center cap on the wheel. Some people install a wheel spacer (I don't recommend that), others have used a dremel tool to hollow the back of the cap, and others (including myself) cut the end of the stub off. I used a sawzall to cut 1/4" off.

Hi thanks for the reply - I wanna stay 18's and I even want to stay with the same range in offset (18-20mm if the info I have is correct) - I dont want to do any mods, just thought there is something newer that would look cool but at least be as good as the OEM rims. I was thinking of michelin Defenders all season for the truck... whether I replace the rims or not.
Or am I better off to just have these OEM rims refurbished, and who does them? they are chome plated and the chrome is starting to come off, large peels sometimes.
I can get 4 mounted for around $2K from Tire Rack, shipped to me, but my main concern is the quality of the rims they sell - I dont mind spending 2K on something that will last me 10-15 years - you said for like $600 I could get a set of new tires and rims? - what brand of these are we talking?

I thought the Navi was the same as the Expy since 2003 and the F150 since 2004, which is 44mm offset. Except the F150 Raptor is 35mm.

There's plenty of opinions on tires. I've used multiple brands. Michelins are good if that's what you want.

I'm talking about Ford OEM wheels and whatever tires that came on the vehicle the wheels and tires were taken off of. Ford uses multiple brands of tires. Just look on websites like Craigslist, OfferUp, Facebook marketplace for new takeoff sets. You can find sets with varying miles like a couple dozen to a couple thousand. If you're looking for a factory size and fit, you might as well get a newer set of factory wheels.
