Highboy Front axle

When did ford start using king pin front axles with disc brakes on the f-250 4x4 trucks ? My 69 crew had a Dana 44 closed knuckle in it , which I have changed to a Dana 60 king pin disc brake axle. I am looking at a 68 highboy and it has a dana 44? king pin disc axle and I am wondering if it has been swapped or is it original ?

Swapped, thay stopped using closed knuckle 44s in about 1975.

That is correct, 1976 was the first year for open knuckle disc brakes as standard.

And a D44 open knuckles uses ball joints, not king pins. King pins are on D60.
