running boards

New to the site, just traded a 2019 250 on a 2021 250 lariat and when I went to look at it I noticed the running boards have a plastic looking piece behind it with superduty on it. I am not a fan of this look and was wondering if it is removable, I prefered the look of the 2019

I think you can, but then the brackets will be uncovered, just the bare steel showing.

They're removable. the plastic inserts are snapped in place. The steel brackets are painted black and they'll look like a 2017-2019 fixed running board.

I'd bet that there is a market for that plastic "shield". I thought they looked neat but opted not to use Ford's running boards.

Sounds like the extended running board option. Know some that love that extension if they need to access their bed or tool box. The dealer might trade you a set of regular length they could sell the others to someone I’m sure.

Once removed they look the same as the previous years. If you do remove them let me know, I would buy them from you.

I may have misunderstood if you were referring to the splash guard behind (as in under the rocker panel). I think Ford added this in 20 for functionality. One of my friends has these on his and likes them because they keep mud and debris off the step. I got rid of my chrome steps because of the mess.
