Looking for suggestions on shock replacements for the crappy OEM ones on a 2021 7.3 Lariat. I do not want any lift, I just want higher quality shocks.
I use the truck as a daily driver, towing a 7000 pound travel trailer, and light off roading a few times a year. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I used to have Bilstein 5100's on my older truck and they were great. Current truck has Fox 2.0's and they seem just as good. I think the Bilstein's were just a little stiffer.
Bilstein 5100's. All around, a good shock for a stock, or leveled Super Duty. Occasionally, 4 Wheel Parts will put them on sale for $319. Delivered. They're firm, but not harsh, definitely softer than a comparable Fox. Rancho 9000's worked well when I carried a Cabover Camper, but I'd never consider them for a daily driver.

I've been a Bilstein guy my entire truck life, no complaints. However on my F-250 I went with the Fox 2.0 with a 1.5" leveling kit. My understanding is that my particular Fox shocks are good for stock to + 1.5". Night and day difference! My truck has the camper package with the heavy front springs and all I did was the spacer kit and new shocks (plus all the front end stuff). The ride quality and comfort is absolutely amazing. And to be honest when the truck is loaded down it is actually a little better from a ride control/rebound perspective. They absolutely cost more but so far so good. Truck has ~4400 miles I did the swap about 1200 miles ago.
I also purchased the Bilstein 4600s, but I haven't installed them yet. I'll get them on when I get my 1st oil change/service, so I can't compare OEM vs Bilstein yet. My truck isn't leveled or lifted so I didn't really consider their 5100s. As for the Rancho 5000s or 9000s, I only know that they rusted a lot on my old 08 F350 but I did consider them....
They rust. They were good for heavy dampening on 9. Setting 1-8 was a pain in the ***. The **** isn't easy to turn, and the settings arn't a positive click. Especially when you're laying on your back, under the truck, trying to turn the ****. I was never sure if it was on 3 or 5, or .. what. Just no.
I have the Rancho 9000XL. Mine are still easy to change the setting after three years. I can never remember what they were last set to, so I always rotate them back to 1 and then go up from there. Definite improvement over stock. Great warranty.
Just installed bisteins 5100’s on my stock 19. Was between them or fox 2.0 but mot reviews seemed to prefer bilstein for more on road/towing.
Took around an hour and a half to do myself and am very pleased with the difference. Mostly less rocking going up driveways and dips.
