For those who have PPF on the hood. Did the installer have to cut out the "SUPER DUTY" indentations or where they able to make it stretch and fill it in?
I had the film cover over the Super Duty. The installer was able to fill in the letters but after a year of hot and cold the film has pulled away from the indents in many places. I expected this and am okay with it. I would rather have this area, at the most vulnerable part of the hood, protected. A few bubbles under the film don't look great but also don't bother me. If you like your truck to always look pristine then covering over the Super Duty is probably not the way to go as the inevitable bubbles may drive you nuts.
My installer cut them out as well. He said that after “while” the film would start to bubble and come off in the letters; and that would drive me nuts.
You could have them cut out and then if youre worried about the paint in the letters getting ruined, you could order the decal pack for the front hood that will cover the embossed super duty
I agree with Shawnee1… this will be the most hit part of the hood so I choose to cover. It’s not perfect, but I’d rather this than the sandblasted look in a short time. Other option is still have it covered or not and run a deflector:
you could always have them go over the letters, make a slit in the middle of the letters to help it lay down some, then use the decals to cover it up...
Thanks guys, mine cut out around the indentations, just wanted to make sure that was normal. I didn't even notice until it got dirty to be honest and it showed the dirt around the edges.
I like the way Camping Nut has his done with the whole letter cut out, looks clean.
I was on the fence when I went to have PPF put on. The installer said he could get it to go into the indentations, and he did. No bubbles so far. He did the same thing on the tailgate.
Making the film conform to the indentations would seem to involve less labor to me.
That was not done by hand. However he made/bought that film, it was pre-done before installation. I really like how that looks/works. Do you know what film he used?
