Post Introduction

Hello,

My name is Peter E. Landis, just call me Eugene. Passed down to me was a 1994 Ford F-150 XL Sport, Manual 4.9 engine.

It has been sitting for 20+ years

Know Problems:
  1. Engine: Has not been ran in 20+ years.
    1. Clutch fan taken off to be able turn crankshaft over. Motor turned over after taking off head cover off and spraying and tapping heads.
  2. Clutch: The reason it has been sitting is my dad refused to pay to have the clutch replaced, and didn’t want to replace it himself.
  3. Battery: Pretty obvious, there was not a battery sitting it in for years, which is good. I have been using a battery that need to be constantly recharged, but works great for checking electronics in the truck
  4. Brakes: Because of how long it sat
  5. Tires: Dry rotted
  6. Fuel Gauge: Reads past full, due to the sensor needing to be replaced
Things Dealt With (basically nothing):
  1. Lights on instrumental Cluster: Checked and fixed them. The right turn wouldn’t turn on, until the socket was put back in place after being loose.
  2. Ignition: Replaced after I snapped a key in it. Long story short I learned that the lock for the key in the ignition was a thing. Learned how to take an ignition out and replace it.
  3. Door locks: Replaced

There is a lot to do, however I won’t give up the truck unless I can’t do anything to it. With that said, I have my boss when the weather gets better to try to start the engine. If that doesn’t work I can get a new engine. I have a budget of $4,000-$6,000, and I won’t buy a new truck. My plans with this truck or any truck I get is to have it as a project. I have a car to get around in right now, this truck isn’t a needed, it’s just a hobby. I am in the Air Force, in the stages of a delayed entry program. When I am serving, I will have this truck as a project when I have nothing to do. I joined this site to get people’s take on information about the engine, transmitter, lighting, sound system, etc. I won’t buy a truck that doesn’t need work on it due to the fact I want to have pride in what I put into a truck I want to drive. Because I have the time to do it, the money to, and have a mode of transportation.

I would suggest troubleshooting it if it doesn't start, and not just getting a new engine.
