97 Ranger
I have always loved a good solid truck. When I got my first Ranger years ago I love the small size combined with their ability. My last Ranger was wrecked and I wept. I just found a great deal on a decent 97 Ranger. Now I just have to figure out why the break and clutch move together. After 40 years I am making an effort to be more proficient with cars, now I just need to figure out why the cluck and break on this one rubs and it will be worth way more than what I paid. Where can I post questions for the best chance of getting help?

They do sit on a common shaft and it may be worn depending on several issues like use/mileage, maybe need to be lubricated?
So please explain the issue in detail. I have 300000+ on mine with no issues with the pedal system.
Yes Hank you have it about right. I drive it home last night and found that when I press the clutch the break depresses slightly also or vice versa. I also realized that when I parked it the breaks were still engaged, you know those annoying bright red lights on the back. I had to reach in to disengage the break with a audible click and noticed both were kind of stuck together. I have not had a chance to look in there yet but knowing they do sit on a common shaft is helpful and hopeful.
As I recall, the brake and clutch pedals are on the same plate - bolted to the firewall. Apparently the factory plate has a tendency to split, and when you press the clutch, it will flex the plate and slightly move the brake pedal.
If you get under there with a good light, you may see the plate has a crack in it. It will need to be replaced because the mount plate may be flexing and not fully disengaging the clutch, which could lead to bad news down the road.
Hope this helps!
