My parents said the same thing. I laughed at them and the same hour that I went to finish paying off my truck I had the top off and was cruising the town. The only thing that I recomend is that you invest in some new way to attach the top to the trick because if you break one of those bolts off like I did youll hate yourself for a long time.
When I got my 86 Bronco, my dad said the same thing.
So I did what you are thinking of doing, take it of while he is out of town.
Exept when me and my budies came back to the house to put the top back on, there he was, waiting for me in the driveway looking verry mad. He came back a day erly. Boy was I in trouble.
Years later after the truck was put in my name and I could do whatever I wanted with it he told me wy he didnt want me to take it of before.
Some of his friends had told him it would leak, the top would not fit back on right afterwords and that the bedsides would spread.
His friends owned K5 Blazer's
These problems dont exist on Bronco's
My top wont leak even when it is not bolted down. Two weeks ago it sat in the drivway for a week with the top just sitting on it with the back window rolled up. I had not had time to bolt it back down, it rained for 2 days and never leeked.
It always fits back on right.
the bedsises have never spread.
So do what pop's says, but removing the top will have no ill efects on the vehichle.
Another option is to invest in a soft top. i put one on my truck this spring and I absolutely love it. It's the best of both worlds, although it is somewhat pricey at around $500.
